Embracing plant-based and alternative proteins is a way to create a more equitable global food system.
Yet research, capital, networks, and visibility are still concentrated in too few places. And too much of the sector has already been shaped around too narrow a set of diets, food cultures, consumer assumptions, and markets.
This matters especially across the Global South where food systems, ingredients, infrastructure, livelihoods, and eating habits are incredibly diverse.
Without deliberate inclusivity, the global protein transition risks reinforcing existing inequalities, especially for women, minorities, and remote communities.
For alt protein to flourish, it has to move beyond Western meat formats like burgers and nuggets and the ill-imagined pursuit of biomimicry. Instead, alt protein needs to find its place in the vibrant cultural culinary traditions that already exist: incorporated into dumplings, dosas, injera, jollof, satay, and the thousands of other dishes that make up how the world actually eats.

We help knowledge travel further, connect people who rarely share the same room, and create more ways for people around the world to come together and build the Future of Food - shaped by everyone for everyone.
